Amazon Delivery Driver Saves Dog From Drowning in Backyard Pool While on His Route

An Amazon driver’s route ensured that he was in the right place at the right time.

John Cassabria went above and beyond the expectations of his job when he saved a dog from drowning.

He was delivering packages in Woburn, Massachusetts when he heard a strange noise. When he investigated, he noticed a dog struggling to stay above the water in a backyard pool, according to WBZ-TV.

"I saw what looked like a snout and at that moment my heart sank," he explained.

He said that he didn’t think twice about jumping into the pool “with everything on.”

He dove in with his phone, wallet, and watch on, but he explained “none of that mattered” because he only had the rescue on his mind.

"I thought only of the dog at the moment," he told the outlet.

The dog’s owner, Julie Caldwell, said the 14-year-old named Luka has issues with his hind legs and would have likely drowned if Cassabria didn’t leap into action.

She also said Luka doesn’t swim, but the outlet notes that a bone caught in the pool’s vacuum cord may have lured him in the pool.

Caldwell wasn’t home at the time. She was a few hours into her vacation when she got the call from Animal Control.

“I’m like what? What are you talking about? He goes ‘Luka fell in your pool and the Amazon driver saved him.’ I was in tears. What in the world? Could not believe it,” she told the outlet.

Cassabria sat by Luka’s side for an hour and a half until the scheduled dog sitter arrived. He explained that he had no regrets about his decision: "I happened to be in the right moment at the right time. I would repeat the same actions over and over if I had to."

Boston.com reports that Caldwell sent a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos explaining her gratitude for Cassabria’s heroic actions.

“Words cannot express how grateful we are to him. In fact I have tears in my eyes as I write this email," the note read, per the publication.

"Luka is doing fine thanks to your wonderful and courageous employee,” she added.
