To aid in the promotion of Metallica’s larger-than-life IMAX motion picture, the band has just released “Master of Puppets” (live) featuring scenes from the new concert adventure “Through The Never.”

The film boasts jaw-dropping Hollywood effects, with the story centered around lyrics from Metallica’s greatest hits, all while the band performs them on an impressive stage in real time.

“The story is about Trip (played by Dane DeHaan) and his tenacity, his wanting to fulfill this errand, explained drummer Lars Ulrich to in July. “There’s this bag, with something in it, that he holds onto for dear life.” When asked what’s in the bag, Ulrich joked, “DeHaan may be the only person on the planet that knows what’s in the bag, and he may take that to his grave.”

Ulrich explained that the 3D IMAX film is a narrative, told in part by Metallica’s lyrics and in part by Trip’s actions.

Written and directed by Nimrad Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth), Through The Never opens in IMAX theaters nationwide September 27.

The band also released part four and five in their exclusive look behind the scenes of Through The Never. In this episode, the band and crew take a look at “Doris,” the 35’ tall Damaged Lade Justice statue. A smaller version of Doris was used as a set piece during 1988’s And Justice For All world tour. Originally given life by stagehands backstage pulling on ropes, today’s statue is three times as large and moves with help from animatronics. But to make things more complicated, the statue would have to be assembled during a song then crumble to pieces on cue only minutes later. It’s certainly a feat of modern engineering.

Part five, available here, takes a look inside the daunting task of lighting the arena with lights, lasers and ample amounts of fire.
