Dave Grohl didn’t give away much, but they did say this: there’s going to be a new Foo Fighters album and it’s coming out in 2014.

“Well, I’ll tell you,” Grohl said in an interview today with XFM (via CoS), “we have been in our studio writing and in the past few weeks we’ve written an album and we are going to make this album in a way that no one’s ever done before and we’re pretty excited about it.”

Grohl added that it’s still “a little ways off – it’s not ready to happen right now but I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters without question.”

Should Grohl stay true to his words, the album would be the Foo Fighters’ eighth studio LP, following 2011′s Wasting Light, which was recorded entirely in Grohl’s San Fernando valley garage using only analog equipment. How the next Foo Fighters project is going to be made in a “way that no one’s ever done before” remains to be seen.

Grohl then concluded, “It’s going to be great, I can’t wait.”
