This Week In Late Night TV: Jimmy Eat World, Muse, Jim James, Chvrches

It’s a tradition as old as the Johnny Carson show: Most nights, since 1966, bands big and small play on the national stage of late night television. Sometimes good things happen, sometimes bad things happen, but the performances are always worth watching. They’re captivating mostly because they offer the raw sound of a live band and the professional video and audio recording of a late night television show.

This week, June 17-21, sees pop-rock veterans Jimmy Eat World playing in support of their eighth studio album and Scottish up-and-comers Chvrches bringing something new to the States with their unique brand of buzzy dance music.

Tuesday, June 18 – Tom Keifer
Wednesday, June 19 – Jim James

With Jim James’ latest solo album, he made a stripped-down version of the soaring, oft-angelic music of his full-time band My Morning Jacket. With more than a decade of near-classic albums under his belt, James has become one of this generation’s mainstays, and his spectacular live performances prove that he’s worth the accolades.

Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle” made the band one of the biggest things in 2001’s pop-rock landscape, but nothing has quite reached the heights of that song that sound-tracked so many teenage nights. Still with the release their seventh album, Damage, the band is making waves again.
