U2 Sighting In New York City Sparks Album Release Rumors

U2 made waves in New York City last week after all four band members were seen at Electric Lady Studios. Sparking rumors that the band’s long awaited album will be out by the end of this year.

According to Rolling Stone, Danger Mouse, who’s previously worked with Jack White and Cee Lo Green, joined the band in the studio to finish mixing the album, which has been in the works since U2’s 2009-2011 world tour. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was also reportedly seen at the studio, though there is no word yet whether it was for work or for play.

While no official release date has been given for the band’s upcoming release, their first since 2009’s No Line On The Horizon, bassist Adam Clayton told fansite, @U2 that they hope to put the album out by the end of this year. “September, October, November that kind of time,” he said. Clayton added that they’re working hard to make the “best” record they possible can.

“We’re working with Danger Mouse, who’s a smart guy. He’s on it; he’s excited. It’s a great team and feels very liberating at the moment – anything goes,” Clayton said in the interview. “We have an abundance of riches, we could make three or four different records and justify that to ourselves, but to make the best record you can, you have to steer away from the ones you can make easily. We’re really trying to get into territory that we’re not comfortable in. If that makes sense.”

After hearing snippets of the new album, Bono’s pal, producer Daniel Lenois told Canadian newspaper The Globe And Mail that ”it sounded amazing.”

“Very, very big and powerful-sounding,” he told the paper. “Some of it was adventurous. There were shades of Achtung Baby.”

While in New York, U2 also took to the studio’s roof to record an acoustic video of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” for global art project Inside Out.
