Do we love the 80’s at JACK FM? You better believe we do. However, as fond as we are of that most righteous of eras, there are a few things that should have stayed in the 80’s.

All these damn reboots: Star WarsIndiana JonesKnight Rider. Classics. But seriously, how disappointed were you when you first walked out of the theater just having seen The Phantom Menace? Do these reboots ever compare to the original?

Paula Abdul: You thought she would be Forever Your Girl, that is until she became an incoherent lunatic on American Idol.

Shoulder pads: That obnoxious fad that we thought had died forever. It didn’t. Shoulder pads belong on football players, people.

Giant cell phones: When the first cellphone, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x, was introduced in 1983, it was ground breaking. It was the wave of the future. It was as big as brick and just as heavy. Thankfully cellphones got smaller over the years. That is until smart phones were introduced, and big started coming back. We’re looking at you, Galaxy Note.

Basketball shoes that are ridiculously priced: When Nike launched Air Jordan in 1985, it sparked a global phenomenon. People would pay a fortune for a pair. Well guess what? Air Jordan’s still cost a boat load of money. At least we have LeBron 10s, which only cost around $180. Psych.

Threat of nuclear war: If you thought the thought the threat of global annihilation died once the U.S.S.R. fell in 1991, you would be wrong. With scores of unstable countries now in possession of nuclear weapons, the threat of a nuclear winter is still very real. Thanks a lot North Korea.

MTV: Do you know what the “M” in MTV stands for? Yeah, that took us a second to remember too. When it debuted in 1981, Music Television actually showed music videos. Imagine that… Now MTV is responsible for atrocities like The Real World16 and Pregnant, and, of course Jersey Shore.
