[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bob Seger [/lastfm]has released a new version of his hit track “Downtown Train.” The release marks his first single since “Face The Promise,” which appeared five years ago.

The song was first recorded by the veteran rocker in 1989 and was re-recorded for Seger’s upcoming new album. He recently spoke with Billboard magazine about the track, which was covered by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Rod Stewart[/lastfm] in 1989.

“The next thing I knew, a month later [Stewart] recorded ‘Downtown Train’ in London, and two months later, he recorded it in the same studio I recorded it in Los Angeles.”

He also noted that, though he no longer harbors hard feelings towards Stewart, Stewart’s use of the song forced him to retire it until now.

Seger also recently made a guest appearance on the piano in [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Kid Rock[/lastfm]‘s song “Collide,” off Rock’s new album Born Free. He and his band, the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Silver Bullet Band[/lastfm], are currently preparing for their U.S. tour, which will kick off in Toledo, Ohio on March 26.
