Weezer was one of the featured performers at the recent Mile High Music Festival outside Denver, Colorado. Street Date’s Evan Levy caught up with frontman Rivers Cuomo backstage before their performance. Cuomo was eager to talk about all things Weezer, including how they chose the name for new album Hurley, and what fans should expect for re-releases this year (spoiler alert: Pinkerton boxed set!). Here’s Cuomo answering the question everybody wants to know: “Why did you name the album after Hurley from Lost?”

Rivers and the band have been particularly prolific in their releases over recent years. Hurley is the band’s third new album in three years, following up on 2008′s Weezer (Red Album) and 2009′s Raditude. Rivers credits technology, and a generational shift in how bands release music, with giving Weezer a reason to produce so much new music:
