greenday 1102091 Fans Help Green Day Triumph At Lollapalooza[lastfm]Green Day[/lastfm] turned back the clock at Lollapalooza Saturday night, taking fans through the band’s catalog of hits.

Sixteen years after their Lolla debut in 1994, Green Day kept the crowd on its feet throughout a more than two-hour headlining performance.

There was none of the mud-throwing and moshing that characterized the first Lollapaloozas, but fans still found a way to participate in the rapid-fire rock assault from [lastfm]Billie Joe Armstrong[/lastfm] and company.

Armstrong invited numerous fans on stage to belt out classics like “American Idiot” and “Longview.”

While French rockers [lastfm]Phoenix[/lastfm] played opposite Green Day at the other end of Chicago’s Grant Park, a young man holding a French flag helped Billy Joe with “Know Your Enemy.”

Green Day straddles a fine line these days, able to maintain a youthful edge despite being huge enough to have a Broadway musical based on their songs.

The band is back in the United States after the European leg of their 21st Century Breakdown World Tour.
