rollingstones 1104092 Stones Plotting Farewell? The [lastfm]Rolling Stones[/lastfm] are reportedly planning to launch a final tour next year, before calling it quits. U.K. newspaper The Sun says that the band is in talks with tour promoter Live Nation for a series of farewell dates.

The trek would begin next year and last into 2012. This would mark the 50th anniversary for the Stones, who formed in 1962.

An unnamed source told the newspaper, “They’re likely to perform in stadiums. It’s almost certainly the last full-scale world tour. The band realise that age is creeping up on them. They want to bow out on top of their game, and not short-change fans.”

The Stones began launching farewell tours as early as the 1970s, but with [lastfm]Mick Jagger[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Keith Richards[/lastfm] both 66 years old and with recent reports of tension within the band, the rumors of a final bow seem somewhat more credible.
