billy2 Corgan Aiming For Perpetual Presence[lastfm]Smashing Pumpkins [/lastfm]frontman [lastfm]Billy Corgan [/lastfm]says that releasing tracks one-by-one for the band’s current effort, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope is an attempt to achieve a “perpetual presence.” Speaking to Rolling Stone, Corgan also said he realized that a lot of fans didn’t listen to the Pumpkins’ last album.

In terms of releasing individual tracks from the new album online instead of releasing the entire album, Corgan told Rolling Stone, “What we’re aiming for now is just perpetual presence. I believe this is going to be the new way. From an artistic standpoint, I think it’s actually more interesting because you’re in that constant kinetic back and forth like you were when you were younger, in a club.”

When asked about fan response to the band’s Zeitgeist album, which was their last before Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, Corgan said, “I could tell that people weren’t listening to the album. In the past if you put out an album, people at least knew the first song. We would go out and play the first song and I could tell they had not even listened to the first song.”
