eltonjohn 102809 Elton John Moving Away From Singles Towards AlbumsSinger [lastfm]Sir Elton John[/lastfm] has told the press that he will no longer focus on creating hit singles.

Instead, the singer noted that he would be directing his attention to making “records that fit my age.”

In an interview at an event in London, he said: “I don’t have to make pop records any more. The singles chart is not one I’m going to be in very often any more, so my view is to make records that fit my age. I don’t think I’m going to do ‘Crocodile Rock’ any more.”

John added: “In the 70s, 80s and 90s, the record companies said you had to have a single. I think I’ve fulfilled my brief.”

John’s latest album, a collaboration with [lastfm]Leon Russell[/lastfm] called The Union, is slated for release in October. It will also feature co-writing credits with John’s long-time collaborator [lastfm]Bernie Taupin[/lastfm].
