raydavies Ray Davies Tributes Late Kinks Bassists At Glastonbury[lastfm]Ray Davies[/lastfm] used his set at last weekend’s [lastfm]Glastonbury Music Festival[/lastfm] to pay tribute to his former [lastfm]Kinks[/lastfm] bandmate [lastfm]Peter Quaife[/lastfm], who died last week at age 66.

During the set, Davies told fans that Quaife was a major part of the [lastfm]Kinks[/lastfm]’ success, saying, “I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for him.”

Davies enlisted London’s [lastfm]Crouch End Festival Choir[/lastfm] for the set, which included a number of tracks from [lastfm]Quaife[/lastfm]’s favorite [lastfm]Kinks[/lastfm] album The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society. According to Quaife, that album found the band at their collaborative best.

“Making that album was the high point of my career. For me it represents the only real album made by the [lastfm]Kinks[/lastfm] . . . in which we all contributed something,” he told Juke Box magazine in 2006.
