bandbonjovi 1016092 Bon Jovi Keyboardist Wins Tony Award[lastfm]Bon Jovi [/lastfm]keyboardist [lastfm]David Bryan[/lastfm] was honored with a Tony Award over the weekend for his score and orchestration for the musical Memphis.

“I just wanted my songs covered. On Broadway, it happens eight times a week,” said Bryan told interviewers of his experience on Broadway after the event.

Bryan, who missed his first performance in 30 years with Bon Jovi to attend the Tony Awards, was also honored by his bandmates during their performance at London’s 02 Arena over the weekend.

At the show, [lastfm]Jon Bon Jovi [/lastfm]explained Bryan’s absence saying, “David Bryan hasn’t missed a show on this stage for almost 30 years but he’s missing this one tonight because he’s there with you at Radio City Music Hall. To show support for his brand new musical, we wanted everyone here in London to wish him good luck on the eight Tony nominations.”

Memphis earned the Best Musical Award as well as a Best Score and Book award, which was given to playwright Joe DiPietro. The play examines the relationship between race and music in the south during the 1950s.
