abba ABBA Tribute Acts Might Go ExtinctMore than a dozen [lastfm]ABBA[/lastfm] tribute acts are on thin ice after allegedly receiving a warning from Universal Music to change their names or face the consequences.

Universal’s attorneys allege that 15 of the Swedish pop band’s cover acts are infringing on the intellectual property rights of the group.

“If we have to change the name we’ll lose all that business and reputation,” said Abba Queens‘ singer Anneli Stockwell.

Her group, which is based out of Cambridgeshire, England, has performed every weekend since 2007 and faces losing a lot of money and exposure if forced to undergo a name change.

Other acts, such as Bjorn Again, who walk the other side of the very thin ABBA-naming-rights line, are reportedly safe for now.

ABBA topped the charts worldwide from 1972 to 1982 and produced such hits as “Dancing Queen” and “Fernando.”
