paulsimon 020510 Paul Simon And Joan Baez Perform Together At Benefit At the Children’s Health Fund Benefit in New York City last week, folk icons [lastfm]Paul Simon [/lastfm]and [lastfm]Joan Baez[/lastfm] teamed up for a slew of songs together at the star-studded gala.

Simon’s group, the Children’s Health Fund, honored Baez with a humanitarian award at the event, which was attended by Matthew Modine and newsman Tom Brokaw, among others.

“I’d like to thank her for coming tonight . . . and offering to play,” said Simon about Baez, according to Rolling Stone. He then quipped, “Actually, we coaxed her.”

“Children’s health care is an important issue,” said Baez, who performed alongside Simon toward the tail end of his performance.

Simon entertained the audience with “The Sounds of Silence,” “Mrs. Robinson” and even a [lastfm]Beatles [/lastfm]cover before being joined by Baez, who helped him close out the night with the classic “The Boxer.”

Baez will kick off a summer tour in Reno, Nevada, next month.
