ttrainband 040710 Trains Hey, Soul Sister Hits #1 On ITunes Chart[lastfm]Train[/lastfm]‘s “Hey, Soul Sister” has taken over the top spot on the iTunes songs chart. The track marks a high point in download sales for the Los Angeles band, with more than 2.5 million downloads to date.

“Hey, Soul Sister” is the second single off the band’s Save Me, San Francisco album, and made its debut at number 98 on the Billboard Hot 100, before steadily creeping its way up to number 14.

“I said, ‘I want to write an [lastfm]INXS[/lastfm]-y song,” frontman [lastfm]Pat Monahan[/lastfm] told the Erie Times. “So, they started playing kind of an INXS-y song, and I wrote the song ‘Hey, Soul Sister’ to it and the melodies and started to sing it. And I was like, ‘Man, this just doesn’t sound great to me.”

“One of the guys, [lastfm]Espen[/lastfm], who’s like a huge star in Norway, picked up a ukulele, and said, ‘Hey, how about this?’ I was like, ‘Are you (kidding) me?’ And it made the difference,” he continued. “It made my words dance. It made sense. These words were meant to dance with ukulele and not guitar.”

Other songs on the iTunes chart include “Nothin’ On You” by [lastfm]B.o.B[/lastfm], featuring [lastfm]Bruno Mars[/lastfm], at number two and [lastfm]Rihanna[/lastfm]‘s “Rude Boy” at number three.
