ladygaga 011510 MTV Execs: Lady Gaga Telephone Vid Not PulledMTV Network executives are denying claims that they have shelved Lady Gaga‘s new “Telephone” video due to its racy content. The new ten-minute mini-movie, also featuring Beyoncé, includes scenes depicting lesbians kissing and Gaga being stripped by prison officers.

CNN reported that MTV had, in fact, pulled the video, just as they had with Madonna‘s 1990 video, “Justify My Love,” which included images of a topless woman. MTV programming director Tuma Basa has rejected the claims, however, posting on his Twitter page that “the reports are false . . . the video’s been airing since Friday morning on AMTV.”

The video was directed by Jonas Åkerlund, who also manned the helm on Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” video. In a recent interview with E! Online, the singer explained that she took inspiration from filmmaker Quentin Tarantino for the direction of the video.

“There was this really amazing quality in ‘Paparazzi,’ where it kind of had this pure pop music quality but at the same time it was a commentary on fame culture . . . I wanted to do the same thing with this video – take a decidedly pop song, which on the surface has a quite shallow meaning, and turn it into something deeper,” Gaga said.
